Punch-Drunk Love both explores this idea and summarizes the film identity in its tension eruptive turning point.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barry and Lena are finally in love. Their Hawaii trip had cascaded into a lovesick explosion, where for once, it was just them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No sisters. No work accidents. No extortionists. No clattering percussion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After serenading us with the nostalgia inducing score, for a moment, we forget the peril our protagonist finds himself. The much needed escape has run its course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon arriving home, we are catapulted into an intended car crash. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recurrent drums come back, followed by the electronic beeps and buzzes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their breathing intensifies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The spinning of the sedan becomes nauseating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lena staring into Barry&#8217;s eyes, dark red blood dripping down her head. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was the last time she would be hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last time she would be in danger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without hesitation, Barry exits the vehicle, facing danger head on. On his face a neutral expression. His hands quickly fixing his suit. These men, the ones who kidnapped, extorted, attacked, and chased him are taken down in rapid succession. Beaten with their own tire iron. He moves with such intention, striking with efficiency, yet never does he extend outside his humanity. Even letting the last one go, returning the iron. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barry Egan, the anxious, long fused, anger filled toilet plunger distributor, has released his capacity for courage, becoming an unwitting bad-ass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How could this be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well, he has something to lose and someone to love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He sure as hell won&#8217;t let anything get in their way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love is unexplainable, often times unrelenting. We take a chance on something new, something unfamiliar. Endearment is powerful and with endearment, comes fight. That is not only the summation of Barry Egan&#8217;s character, but of Punch-Drunk Love on the whole. P.T. Anderson encourages us to fight for the ones we care about. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The film want&#8217;s us to take risks, lead ourselves, and become bigger than anyone may think. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is Punch-Drunk Love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The scene that makes the film Love makes us something bigger.
